Bathroom remodel cost
A bathroom is the densest room in the house — plumbing, tile, ventilation and fixtures in a few square metres — which is why it is priced per square foot and why the per-foot rate is so much higher than any other room.
Updated Jun 26, 2024 · typical $11,533 · Citing Angi and HomeAdvisor. Works out at $70–$250 per sq ft.

What moves the price
- Whether the plumbing moves
- Replacing fixtures where they stand is the cheap case. Moving a soil stack or relocating the toilet brings in floor and wall work and changes the price bracket.
- Tile area
- Tile is priced by area and labour is the larger half; a full-height tiled shower is a different job from a half-height splashback.
- Fixture choice
- The shower line alone spans $200 to $15,000 in the published breakdown, which is a bigger swing than the size of the room.
